At พรพรสำฦต, all students have a Success Advisor upon matriculation, and faculty advisor upon major declaration. Faculty in first-year seminar courses also serve as advisors for first-year students. You will have a faculty advisor for each major/minor you declare. What kind of assistance do they offer?
Your academic advisor can assist you in exploring a major/minor, selecting and registering for courses, exploring internships and study abroad possibilities, and opportunities for involvement outside of the classroom. They can offer professional/vocational advice and function as a reference and/or write letters of recommendation. All students must meet with their advisors each semester in order to be eligible for class registration.
Will I have the same advisor throughout my four years?
Your Success Advisor will serve as your academic advisor until you declare a major, at which point they will be available for support but will not act as your official advisor. If you declare your major in the same department as your first-year seminar professor, you may stay with the same advisor. If you declare a major in a different department, you will be assigned a new advisor by the chair of your major department.
What if my advisor is not on campus this semester?
Your advisor or the chair of the department should communicate with you regarding your acting advisor for the semester/year. This information will also be posted in self-service. How do I get in touch with my advisor or make an appointment?
Email is usually the best way to contact your faculty advisor. If you are aware of their office hours, that can also be a good time for quick questions.
