Advising FAQs

Who is my academic advisor?

  • At พรพรสำฦต, all students have a Success Advisor upon matriculation, and faculty advisor upon major declaration. Faculty in first-year seminar courses also serve as advisors for first-year students. You will have a faculty advisor for each major/minor you declare. Your advisor is listed in the self-service portal.   with your Wittenberg email and password, click โ€œStudent Planning,โ€ click โ€œGo to plan and schedule,โ€ and select the โ€œAdvisingโ€ tab at the top of the page.

What kind of assistance do they offer?

  • Your academic advisor can assist you in exploring a major/minor, selecting and registering for courses, exploring internships and study abroad possibilities, and opportunities for involvement outside of the classroom. They can offer professional/vocational advice and function as a reference and/or write letters of recommendation. All students must meet with their advisors each semester in order to be eligible for class registration.

Will I have the same advisor throughout my four years?

  • Your Success Advisor will serve as your academic advisor until you declare a major, at which point they will be available for support but will not act as your official advisor. If you declare your major in the same department as your first-year seminar professor, you may stay with the same advisor. If you declare a major in a different department, you will be assigned a new advisor by the chair of your major department.

What if my advisor is not on campus this semester?

  • Your advisor or the chair of the department should communicate with you regarding your acting advisor for the semester/year. This information will also be posted in self-service. (Log into self-service with your Wittenberg email and password, click โ€œStudent Planning,โ€ click โ€œGo to plan and schedule,โ€ and select the โ€œAdvisingโ€ tab at the top of the page). You can contact COMPASS (studentsuccess@wittenberg.edu) or the Registrar (registrar@wittenberg.edu) for additional assistance.

How do I get in touch with my advisor or make an appointment?

  • Email is usually the best way to contact your faculty advisor. If you are aware of their office hours, that can also be a good time for quick questions.
