The Honors Program provides an academic and social climate in which students of high academic potential can find a community of classmates with similar scholarly goals and professors to support and encourage them in pursuit of those goals. The students are brought together in special, limited enrollment seminars which provide a supportive environment for, often interdisciplinary, intellectual inquiry. The Program culminates in independent scholarly research which produces a senior thesis project within the student's major area of study.

The information you submit here indicates your interest in the Wittenberg Honors Program and will allow us to help guide you as you move through the college application and admissions process. Official Honors Program eligibility and admission to the Wittenberg Honors Program is offered only after you are admitted to the University.
Admission Process
Incoming first-year students may join the University Honors Program in one of two ways:
University Honors Direct Admission
Students interested in being directly admitted into the University Honors program must complete a University Honors Application. Direct Admission will be based on consideration of high school grade point average (GPA), class rank, curriculum, standardized test scores and personal statement. The committee may request additional information from students should it be needed. Less than 10% of students accepted to Wittenberg are directly admitted into University Honors. Students should submit a University Honors Application by Dec 1 with notification by Jan 15 of their Senior year. Students directly admitted into University Honors will receive an additional $1000 Honors Program Scholarship. Honors Program Scholarship may be stacked on top of one merit-based scholarship award. This award is $1000 per year for four years as long as the student maintains involvement in the University Honors Program. Direct Admit students may take honors seminars, which usually satisfy a general education requirement, as well as utilize the Matthies House and attend special Honors social events. Students must maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA throughout their Wittenberg career to remain members of the University Honors Program.
University Honors Conditional Admission
Students who are awarded the Presidential or Provost Scholarships at the time of admission to the University will also be given Conditional Admission to University Honors. Conditional members achieving a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 after their first semester will be invited to continue in the Honors Program. Students will be contacted by the Director of University Honors, provided with information about requirements for University Honors, and asked to respond that they understand the requirements and commit to the Honors Program. Conditional members who do not achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above will not be invited to continue in the Honors Program. Upon achievement of a 3.5 cumulative GPA in a subsequent semester, students may reapply to the Honors Program.
First and second year students who were not Direct Admit members are invited to apply for membership to the Honors Program early in the semester after they have achieved a 3.5 cumulative GPA. Students who achieve a 3.5 cumulative GPA later in their careers may also apply for admission to the program on a case-by-case basis.
Once admitted to the program, a student may take honors seminars, which usually satisfy a general education requirement, as well as utilize the Matthies House and attend special Honors social events. Students must maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA throughout their Wittenberg career to remain members of the Honors Program.
